Canada adds three players to National Men's Team for 2024 IIHF

Hockey Canada has announced the addition of three players to Canada's National Men's Team for the 2024 IIHF. The players are:

  • Connor Bedard, C, Regina Pats (WHL)
  • Shane Wright, C, Kingston Frontenacs (OHL)
  • Mason McTavish, C, Peterborough Petes (OHL)

The three players will join the team for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championship in Halifax and Moncton, Canada.

Jets' Bowness, Canucks' Tocchet, and Preds' Brunette up for NHL coach of the year

Winnipeg Jets coach Rick Bowness, Vancouver Canucks coach Rick Tocchet, and Nashville Predators coach John Hynes are among the finalists for the NHL's Jack Adams Award, given to the league's coach of the year.

Bowness led the Jets to a 39-35-8 record this season, good for second place in the Central Division. Tocchet took over the Canucks in January and led them to a 28-18-6 record in 52 games, helping them sneak into the playoffs.

Hynes guided the Predators to a 36-27-19 record this season, good for fifth place in the Central Division.

Zoe Lolacher and Stryker Zablocki scored and the Red Deer Rebels edged the North York Lightning 2-1 to win the Esso Cup for the first time in franchise history on Saturday.

Lolacher scored the game-winning goal with just over five minutes remaining in regulation time, giving the Rebels their first Esso Cup title since 2008.

Zablocki scored the other goal for the Rebels, while goalie Berkly Catton made 26 saves for the win.

The 2023 IIHF Mens World Championship wraps up on Sunday with Canada taking on Germany in the gold medal game. The game will be played at the Tampere Deck Arena in Tampere, Finland.

Canada is looking to win its first gold medal at the World Championship since 2016, while Germany is looking to win its first gold medal ever.

Both teams have played well in the tournament so far, with Canada going 7-1-0 in the preliminary round and Germany going 5-2-1.
